KHADI SHAMPOOS OVERVIEW

Khadi Shampoos are made with bio-degradable ingredients, mild coconut based surfactants, rich & effective sweet Almond protein and Wheat protein along with essential oils and infusion and decoction of Ayurvedic herbs.
Khadi shampoos do not have sulfate, artificial colours, perfume, alcohol, glycerin & Sodium Benzoate. These ingredients are approved by BDIH and are considered natural but have drying effect on hair & scalp.
Each shampoo is fortified with Zinc PCA to prevent dandruff. They have Aloe Vera for moisture & Rice Bran Oil which contains natural ceramide to make hair emollient. Each shampoo has Neem Oil which is anti-bacterial to keep the scalp free of fungal growth.

The highlight of Khadi shampoos is its acid balance at pH 4.5, with a specific purpose of protecting the acid mantle of hair & scalp. This is as close to the natural acid balance of hair and skin which is pH 5. (Hair & skin have a pH ranging from 4.5 to 5.5 and averaged at 5).

The attempt is to make the hair slightly acidic as it helps to close cuticles to protect the cortex of the hair thus preventing elastic damage and also allowing hair to retain its normal moisture levels, oils & proteins. This not only prevents hair breakage but also protects hair coloured with both herbal & chemical colours.

Neem& Hibiscus are scalp shampoos. They can be used only on the scalp if so desired and a different shampoo can be used on hair length. This means two shampoos for a single customer who has dandruff or sensitive scalp but has damaged hair, oily hair or desires volume & gloss. However the scalp shampoos are also fortified with conditioners and moisturizers and are equally beneficial for hair length.
Khadi shampoos contain certified essential oil. They are used not just for ‘exotic’ aroma, but have a dual role in scalp care and mood elevation. They play specific roles in each shampoo as they are defined. Their primary function is scalp care like toning, sebum balance, keeping scalp clear & strengthening hair roots. In Amla, Hibiscus and Hair Repair a single essential oil is used while Neem & Nutgrass have a combination of three essential oils.
Khadi shampoos have no perfume. Aromatherapy is integral to Ayurveda and essential oils are aphrodisiacs, relaxers and mood elevators which reduce tension, stress, alleviate insomnia, headaches and generate feelings of calm. Perfumes on the other hand have no role in either scalp & skin care or Aromatherapy.

Khadi shampoos are Sulfate free; Sulfate dries hair follicles & scalp which creates an imbalance in the natural sebum production of the scalp. This leads to dandruff when the scalp creates more sebum to balance the dryness. Drying of hair follicles lead hair roots to shrink and eventually hair roots die leading to bald patches or thinning scalp.

Khadi shampoos are alcohol free. Alcohol often used as an emulsifier in BDIH approved shampoos, dry hair & scalp and make hair brittle which leads to breakage. Alcohol also strips colour from chemically coloured hair leading to fading.
All Khadi shampoos contain Sweet Almond & Wheat proteins which play a fundamental role in repairing damaged hair. Proteins adsorb (stick to damaged areas) and thus repair hair whose cuticles have been ripped off by heat appliances, combing, chemical hair colours or chemically treated hair. Cuticle damage prevents growth of hair length, loss of colour, gloss and elasticity. Regular cuticle repair makes hair resilient to breakage and further damage from heat appliances.
Proteins also protect hair heat appliances are used. They prevent heat being transported to the inner hair cortex and prevent moisture loss. If intense heat appliances are used it is advisable to use Rose shampoo because it contains heavy amounts of proteins.

Sometimes customers can complain of “hair like straw” after using Rose Shampoo or other shampoos. This is because each hair is severely damaged with large portions of cuticles missing much like a road full of potholes. The proteins adsorb to these damaged areas and repair hair. This may make hair feel stiff initially but soon the hair will become supple as the proteins settle into the grooves. It is also advisable for all customers to use Rose shampoo once weekly to continuously repair hair to prevent further damage in vulnerable areas. If hair is not repaired regularly it will break off from the severely damaged areas.
Rose Hair Repair shampoo also has Ceramide which is present in human sebum. Ceramide are lipids (oils) that occur naturally in each strand. It keeps cuticles lubricated and flexible to prevent them from being torn away. Cuticle damage is the most fundamental which eventually leads to hair breakage. Cuticles are easily damaged by combing, washing & toweling vigorously and also by using chemicals and heat.
Rose Hair Repair shampoo also has Squalane which is also present in human sebum. It is an extremely rich yet very light emollient and makes hair soft. It prevents moisture loss and restores suppleness & flexibility. Its molecular structure allows it to penetrate the hair shaft and revive extremely dry hair.

Khadi shampoos contain 20% pure Ayurvedic herbal infusions and decoctions which are prepared in the authentic Ayurvedic process. Each herb is separately soaked in water for 8 hours or longer. Fruits and roots are boiled for decoction, while delicate flowers, stems and leaves are infused (steeped in hot water). These are then sieved & a calculation is made regarding percentage of each herb in relation to the others for each shampoo as they are defined. This process is called Samyoga or bringing herbs together for specific actions. It is repeated for each batch which is produced; therefor the herbs in each shampoo are always fresh. In each shampoo the percentages of individual herbs vary according to the effect desired.

For example all shampoos contain the three main herbs for Ayurvedic hair care – Amla, Shikakai &Reetha, but percentages vary in each shampoo for specific combination with other herbs for a different effect in each shampoo.
Khadi shampoos have no chemical or alcohol based extracts of herbs. Extracts are made with chemicals like acetone or alcohols which are then removed by heating. Some minute portions of the chemicals are always found in extracts and are therefore never pure. Infusions and decoctions work directly on skin and hair with their micro nutrients still alive and active. Extracts are only beneficial when taken internally and have no effect applied to skin or hair.
